Learn about developmental disabilities at Studium

“Developmental Disability: One Part of the Diversity Spectrum,” will be the focus of Peninsula College’s Studium Generale presentation at 12:35 p.m. Thursday Oct. 27, in the Little Theater. Priya Jayadev, director of Clallam Mosaic, will be joined by Ursula Schletter, Carr Brackett and Randy Brackett, and said the presentation will provide a general overview of developmental disability, focusing on historical perspectives, attitudinal barriers/perceptions, language, personal experiences and disability etiquette.

Sequim grange plans pumpkin party, fair

Sequim Prairie Grange, 290 Macleay Road, will hold its annual Pumpkin Party and Country Fair on Saturday, Oct. 29.

The Pumpkin Party starts at 4 p.m. in the grange outdoor kitchen.

Participants are able to pick out and carve a pumpkin of their choice and decorate cookies.

The Grange also has arranged for the Clallam County Smoke Trailer to be on the grounds for children to learn what to do in a structure fire.

At 5 p.m. the Country Fair begins in the main hall. Food will be available to purchase in the kitchen and tickets can be purchased for the cake walk and games. There will be guessing games and face painting.

Sequim Library hosts movie screening of ‘Suffragette’

The Sequim Library (630 N. Sequim Ave.) hosts a free screening of the “Suffragette” from noon-1:50 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 29.

The event, sponsored by Hillary for America, includes the historical fiction film based on true events at the turn of the 20th century Britain.

Trunk sale on tap

Chapter IV PEO will have a trunk sale fundraiser from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 29, at the First Presbyterian Church, 139 W. Eighth St., Port Angeles. Items for sale include jewelry, silk and knit scarves, handbags, belts, gloves, hats and women’s tops.

The items were donated by PEO member Patti Dutro of Port Angeles. Proceeds benefit women’s education projects.

Social media safety, more set for Nov. 2 event

Internationally recognized safety expert and speaker Darren Laur presents “Social Media Safety & Digital Literacy for Parents” from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 2, at the Sequim High School auditorium, 533 N. Sequim Ave.

Sponsored by Prevention Works, the event provides information about how to help keep children safe while using the Internet and social networking.

Laur is co-owner and head instructor of Personal Protection Systems, Inc., and is a published, award-winning author who has taught digital safety for the past 12 years.

Free Planned Parenthood program for teens, adults

Planned Parenthood, 426 E. Eighth St., Port Angeles, is sponsoring a LiFT, (Linking Families and Teens) event — a free, 5-hour program where you and your teen can connect about health and communication, have fun together, get food and snacks and win gift cards and prizes.

The event will be from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 5, at the Port Angeles Skills Center, 905 W. Ninth St., Port Angeles. LiFT is a family program that brings high school students and adults together to share values, strengthen family bonds, and talk about the tough stuff.

The program is for students in grades 9-12 and a close adult in their life, like a parent, grandparent, relative or close family friend.

Learn about Roosevelt’s legacy at PA library

This November the North Olympic Library System, in partnership with Humanities Washington, will host free, multifaceted conversations about the lasting wilderness legacy of Theodore Roosevelt.

Educator and conservationist Scott Woodward — a lecturer with the Humanities Washington Speakers Bureau — will lead these discussions at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 3, at the Port Angeles Library; and at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 4, at the Sequim Library.

Peninsula College offers all-in-one enrollment

Peninsula College once again will offer current and prospective students a convenient, one-stop destination for all of their enrollment needs with Get Started Saturday, from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Nov. 5, at the Student Services Building.

Visitors will be able to complete orientation, meet with an advisor, apply for financial, take placement tests, register for classes and win prizes and PC swag.

Grange potluck for veterans

Fairview Grange is hosting a Veterans Appreciation Potluck Dinner at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 8. All are welcome.

Attendees are asked to bring a potluck item to share, though active military personnel and veterans do not need to bring anything. There will be a short ceremony and a small token of appreciation given to all veterans.

Tribe presents PTSD film

The Jamestown S’Klallam Tribal Library presents Native Film Night with “Healing the Warrior’s Heart” from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 9, at Red Cedar Hall, 1033 Old Blyn Highway, Blyn.

This free film looks at PTSD through the prism of Native American ceremony and explores the ancient healing traditions that continue to help returning American Indian soldiers, as well as non-native veterans suffering from this affliction.

Sequim Senior Nutrition Site menus are served at 4:30 p.m. at the Shipley Center, 921 E. Hammond St. on Tuesdays-Fridays. Suggested donation is $5 (60 and over), $8 guest and a 24-hour advance reservation is needed. RSVP to 683-8491. Menus are subject to change.
