City of Sequim seeks ‘found’ items for new art exhibit

The City Arts Advisory Commission is seeking entries of art, in any medium, for an upcoming exhibit to be displayed in the lobby of the Civic Center, 152 W. Cedar St. The theme for the exhibit is “Found Objects … Found Art.” Each art piece must be no larger than 36 inches by 36 inches and not exceed 50 pounds. Deadline for submissions is Aug. 11. The exhibit will be on display from Oct. 1-Dec. 31. An artist reception is set for Oct. 6. Bonsai Society sets show

The Dungeness Bonsai Society presents its 41st exhibition of master works 10 a.m.-5 p.m. June 16-17 at Pioneer Memorial Park, 387 E. Washington St. The show is free to the public and features member art from Forks to Poulsbo. A display shows about 50 trees ranging in age from 1 year to a Ponderosa pine thought to be 250 years old. While most bonsai are of substantial size, one table will be dedicated to miniatures, called Shohin, which range from 7-10 inches high. The June 17 show includes a demonstration on creating a bonsai with the tree raffled at the end of the day. For more information, call 582-0388 or email to pamscribe@gmail.com.

Rock, country at Elks

Round Trip plays rock, country and oldies from 6-8:30 p.m. Sunday, June 11, at the Sequim Elks Lodge, 143 Port Williams Road. There is an $8 cover.

Art, music at library

Dean Ratzman will play his “Swingin’ with Dean Show,” featuring hits of great American artists from the 1940s-1970s, at 6:30 p.m. Friday, June 2, during the First Friday Art Walk at the Sequim Library, 630 N. Sequim Ave. An artist’s reception will be at 6 p.m., immediately preceding the live tunes, for the new Art in the Library exhibit featuring the photography and paintings of Jim Gift.

Tribe has new online exhibit

The Jamestown S’Klallam Tribe’s online museum announces a new exhibit called “Treaty Rights and Resources.” The exhibit describes the basis for treaties and the exercise and protection of treaty rights with respect to hunting, gathering, fishing, shellfish and resource management. The exhibit includes text, photos, documents, curriculum and audio for a content-rich experience. Visitors also can view previous exhibits. In addition to exhibits, the House of Seven Generations offers searchable collections of tribal photos, documents, oral histories and images of artifacts. OPA students stage two-show production in early June

Olympic Peninsula Academy students are bringing two shows to the stage this June. The first production, lasting about 30 minutes and performed by elementary grade students, is “The Dish Ran Away with the Spoon.” The second production, lasting about 90 minutes, will be done by middle and high school students and is called “Twinderella,” a comedic twist on the Cinderella story.

Performance dates are 7 p.m. Friday, June 2, and 1:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. Saturday, June 3. The second June 3 showing will feature only “Twinderella.”

Drum circle changes meeting place

In June, July and August, the Peninsula Community Drum Circle will meet from 6:30-8:30 p.m. the fourth Tuesday at Pam’s Labyrinth on Deer Ridge Lane, off Hooker Road, Sequim, 461-4538. Follow signs to the location.
