Milestone: Beta Nu awards more than $22K in teacher grants

Representatives from Beta Nu recently awarded several spring 2017 professional educator grants totaling $22,083 to teachers in the Sequim School District.

Recipients include:

• Susan Dufner, Helen Haller Elementary School (National Board Certification), $1,145

• Robin Forrest, Sequim School District (National Board Certification), $925

• Laura Gould, Sequim High School (National Board Certification), $1,250

• Jennifer Kent, Helen Haller Elementary School (Middle School Addiction Counsel), $3,983

• Kaylee Kinsey, Helen Haller Elementary School (Master’s degree in Early Childhood Education), $5,000

• Casey Lewis, National Board Certification (Sequim Middle School), $725

• Brad Meckley, Sequim Middle School (National Board Certification), $1,975

• Renee Mullikin, Helen Haller Elementary School (Struggling Readers Workshop), $395

• Brittany Murdach, Sequim High School (National Board Certification), $720

• Teresa Thorson, Helen Haller Elementary School (Struggling Readers Workshop), $395

• Vivian Watson Gaither, Helen Haller Elementary School (Master’s degree in Elementary Education), $5,000

• Sonja Younger, Sequim School District (Professional Teacher Portfolio), $570

The majority of applicants received grant funding to pursue national board certification. Beta Nu Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma offers educational grants to non-profit agencies helping people living in areas served by the Sequim and Port Angeles school districts.

Beta Nu members Sharle Osborne, Dodie French, Ruth Bell and Kathy Strozyk handed out checks to grant recipients on May 17.
