Sponsored by Sequim-Dungeness Chamber of Commerce Merchants’ Group, BirdFest-BirdQuest is a fun, free game for everyone that brings together high school students, merchants and the community to support the Olympic Bird Festival (April 13-15, www.OlympicBirdFest.org) and encourages shopping local.
The game runs from April 2-15, challenging participants to find and match the ceramic bird sculptures created by Jake Reichner’s Sequim High School ceramic’s class to the business where they are hidden. Game cards available at each of the participating merchants and the Sequim-Dungeness Valley Chamber of Commerce, 1192 E. Washington St.
Turn in game cards and people’s choice entries through 4 p.m. on Saturday, April 14, at Forage Gifts & NW Treasures, 121 W. Washington St.
The grand prize and people’s choice award, plus awarding of cash to the top three favorite Sequim High School ceramic bird sculptures, are announced at 2 p.m. on Sunday, April 15, at Dungeness River Audubon Center’s River Stage at Railroad Bridge Park, 2151 W. Hendrickson Road.
The grand prize includes: a tour of the Northwest Raptor and Wildlife Center (www.nwraptorcenter.com) for as many as six people; a gift card to Hi-Way 101 Diner, and a a one-year membership to the Olympic Peninsula Audubon Society (www.olympicpeninsulaaudubon.org).
In addition, the Northwest Raptor and Wildlife Center hosts a live raptor presentation at the River Stage following the awards ceremony. A federally and State licensed rehabilitation facility, the center cares for injured birds and mammals — focusing primarily on eagles, hawks and owls. See some of these birds up close and personal, and learn how director Jaye Moore and staff bring these animals back to health and attempt to return them to their natural habitat.
The presentation is free, though donations are accepted and appreciated.
For the remainder of April, the Sequim High School student’s ceramic bird sculptures will be on display at the Dungeness River Audubon Center in Railroad Bridge Park.
