After dropping four tough non-league games to open the season, Sequim’s Wolves got a big win at North Mason to kick off their Olympic League schedule on March 20.
Freshman Jalyla Julmist went 3-for-4 with a home run and five RBIs, and teammates Ashley Cate, Bobbi Sparks and Kylynn Stringer had two hits each as the Wolves edged North Mason, 7-6.
Isabelle Dennis picked up the win on the mound with Shelby Jones locking down a save.
North Mason got three hits from Emma Crabtree and two hits — including a home run — from Amber Johnson, but also saw starting pitcher Chloe Lewis leave the game in the fourth inning with an injury.
Following a March 23 date with North Kitsap that was postponed because of inclement weather, Sequim dropped a 5-4 decision to non-league foe Archbishop Murphy, and game that went into extra innings.
Sequim nearly overcame 16 strikeouts by Archbishop Murphy pitcher Brooke Jordan, tying the game in the bottom of the seventh to force extra innings, but ultimately came up just short in a heartbreaker.
The Wolves had a 3-1 lead going into the seventh inning in Saturday’s game, but fell behind after the Wildcats got three runners on with two walks and an error. Archbishop Murphy ended up scoring three runs after a triple to take a 4-3 lead.
Sequim tied it in the seventh, but two Archbishop runs in the ninth were the difference. Sequim responded with a run in the bottom of the ninth, but couldn’t push through the winning run.
The Wolves’ Jones went the distance. Cate and Kailyn Lopez led Sequim with three hits each.
