Neil Harrington talks about how research data helps the Jamestown S’Klallam Tribe’s natural resource management at the next Sequim Science Café, set for 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 10, at Paradise Restaurant, 703 N. Sequim Ave.
Harrington, an environmental biologist for the tribe, will explain how data drives responsible management for fishery resources.
Tribe biologists use data to determine stock assessment, sustainable harvest rates, consumption safety, habitat protection and restoration practices. Harrington will talk about recent and current data collection projects in the area. Harrington has worked for the Jamestown S’Klallam Tribe since 2012., focusing his work on the interaction between nutrients and harmful algal blooms, outreach and education, and monitoring of salmon restoration project effectiveness. He has more than 14 years working on water quality, habitat, shellfish and salmon restoration projects on the Olympic Peninsula
Attendees are encouraged to arrive at 6 p.m. if they plan to have a meal.
The Science Café is a community service of the Sequim Education Foundation. Programs present expert speakers for adult and young adult audiences interested in current developments in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
Science Café events are held on the second Tuesday of the month at the Paradise Restaurant. Admission is free and food and beverages are available for purchase.
