Following in the footsteps of her sister Jessica, Helen Haller Elementary fifth-grader Sara German, 11, won the Sequim Irrigation Festival’s button design contest, too. She’s been trying to win since second grade, and this year she won over 418 entries, said Shawnna Rigg, festival products chairman.

As tradition, Sara rode with friends in a limo provided by 7 Cedars Casino and ate chocolate chip pancakes at Oak Table Cafe courtesy of Liz Parks, owner/broker of RE/MAX Prime. Sara, who enjoys art, will later ride in the Grand Parade on May 12 for her accomplishment, and she received a free bracelet for the carnival.

Her sister Jessica, now a freshmen, won the contest in 2014. Students sold Sara’s button design as a fundraiser for the festival for a chance at prizes.
