DISTRICT

The next school board meeting is 6 p.m. Monday, Dec. 17, at Helen Haller Elementary School’s library, 350 W. Fir St. The public is invited to attend, and time is set aside for public comment. To view the agenda and minutes of past meetings and click on “School Board,” “Regular Communication” and “Agendas” on the district’s website at www.sequimschools.org.

The Sequim School District’s teacher-librarians invite all students and their families to attend the Annual Family Reading Night on Jan. 23 at Sequim Middle School. The event hosts an array of fun activities focused on literacy, and all students — pre-K through 12th graders — will leave with a free book at the end of the evening. Stay tuned for more information from each schools’ teacher-librarian.

GREYWOLF ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

To help families in the community this holiday season, Greywolf students are holding a food drive for the Sequim Food Bank to collect non-perishable food items over the next couple of weeks. Each day for 12 days (through Dec. 18), a certain item from the food bank’s wish list will be collected and donated, though other donations may be substituted. Each day, the class that brings the most items will earn bonus recess. A daily calendar is being sent home, but you can see the schedule at gwe.sequimschools.org.

HELEN HALLER ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

Carrie Rodlend, a local artist who visits Helen Haller Elementary each week to do art lessons, visited Jasmine McMullin’s class last week to give a lesson on observation and form. Rodlend had students look closely at an apple and its form and draw it using oil pastels.

SEQUIM HIGH SCHOOL

The second and final weekend of the Sequim High School Operetta Club’s 2018 All School Play, “A Christmas Carol,” written by Charles Dickens, is set for 7-9 p.m. Dec. 14-15 at the SHS auditorium. Tickets are sold at the door (cash only) for $10 (adults) or $8 (students and senior citizens); all proceeds go directly to the Operetta Club to fund future productions and performing arts opportunities for Sequim students.

Seniors: Remember your on-time order for caps and gowns is due to National Achiever by Dec. 14. Orders must be mailed in or you can shop on-line at www.nationalachiever.com.

Yearbooks will once again be available for pre-order during the week of Dec. 17-21. Orders can be placed with Mrs. Ulm in the main office and books are $60.

SHS choir students invite you to attend their winter concert at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 19, in the auditorium.

Winter sports have begun. Check www.olympicleague.com for team schedules.

Sequim High’s FFA is selling Christmas wreaths for $20. Go to Steve Mahitka’s room (E-7) to fill out a form and order. Proceeds support the FFA program.
