Three photographers highlight their work in the first month-long exhibit “Daring to Defy Ordinary” at the new Sequim Museum & Arts building, 544 N. Sequim Ave.
Starting August 2, visitors of the First Friday Art Walk from 5-8 p.m. can see artists’ unique viewpoints from traveling the world with Tim Hauf, getting up close and personal with Sammy Catiis, and visiting “The Bird Zone” with Sally M. Harris.
The exhibit opens 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Tuesday-Saturday, with Al Harris providing music for the opening night.
Tim Hauf is a master of photography with photographs that have been featured in numerous publications throughout the world including USA Today, National Geographic, Smithsonian, and many more. His list of published books include destinations such as the Himalayas of Nepal; South America’s remote Patagonia; the rugged wilderness of northern Manitoba, Canada; South Africa’s World Heritage Sites; Ventura County; and Channel Islands National Park.
Sammy Catiis is a professional photographer with a love for the outdoors. She excels at portrait photography, yet it’s her love of nature that inspires her, she says. Catiis is native to Washington, familiar with most of the birds, trees, plants, animals and insects that live here. She is a walking dictionary on facts and identification. Catiis has volunteered with the Audubon and studied Ornithology from Cornell University. She has a special fondness for owls and insects, and in her extensive portfolio of Northwest nature there are waterfalls, macro photography and creatures great and small.
Sally M. Harris is an award-winning nature photographer. Her image of the Dungeness Lighthouse won first place and Best of Show in the Washington State Photographers Exhibition. She was also awarded Judge’s Choice and People’s Choice in the NW International Photo Exhibit. Locally, she won Best of Show in Clallam County for a photo of a mother Rufous hummingbird feeding her babies. Her work has been featured in the coveted Birds and Blooms magazine and in the book The Lavender of Sequim. Sally is happiest when she is in nature, or as she calls it “The Bird Zone.” She is also a published inspirational writer and children’s book author.
