Sequim High School’s Robotics Club celebrated its squad — and raised some much-needed funds — with its annual luau dinner and auction fund raising event on Dec. 7 at the SHS cafeteria

Funds raised help pay for the expenses associated with FIRST Robotics Competitions including costs for component parts and materials, travel, event registrations and more.

Advisor Brad Moore said the fifth-annual luau auctions took in more than $4,100, and when combined with ticket sales, sponsors and donations prior to the event the total is just short of $6,700.

Moore said that much of the credit for the event’s success goes to Beth Edwards, Jan Volk and Stu Marcy for organization and community outreach.

The Sequim robotics team members design and build a new robot each year to meet the unique FRC game challenges, and have won awards such as Innovation in Control, Excellence in Engineering, Creativity and Industrial Design.

Program representatives estimate annual team costs can come close to $20,000.
