City of Sequim sets unique ribbon-cutting for Fir Street project

The 2019 novel coronavirus has worked its way into nearly every part of life — even ribbon-cuttings.
The City of Sequim looks to celebrate the completion of the West Fir Street Rehabilitation construction project with a unique celebratory event starting at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, July 9.
City officials invite the public to drive and park in the Sequim High School parking lot off West Fir Street for a brief ceremony that will broadcast to their vehicle radio (details will be provided on-site).
The ceremony will be followed by a westbound car parade on Fir Street led by Mayor William Armacost, who will “cut” the ceremonial ribbon with his car bumper.
Background
The West Fir Street Rehabilitation project began in May 2019, featuring paved eastbound and westbound lanes for vehicles and bike lanes for cyclists. Pedestrians improvements include the addition of concrete sidewalks on both sides of the street and Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliant curb ramps at intersections.
Other pedestrian improvements include street lighting, landscaping and crossing enhancements at the Sequim Avenue intersection, a mid-block school crossing east of Second Avenue and at the North Fifth Avenue intersection.
A new traffic signal at the Fifth Avenue intersection was installed.
