Halloween haunts go drive-thru heavy this year

Trick-or-treaters will likely need to hitch a ride this year as many Halloween events are shifting to drive-thrus to accommodate COVID-19 event regulations.

While some popular events from previous years — such as the Downtown Merchants’ Trick-or-Treat, and the Country Fair at the Sequim Prairie Grange — are cancelled due to health concerns this Halloween holiday, here are some Sequim-area events made public for in-person, in drive-thrus and/or online:

Friday, Oct. 30

Libraries set ‘Spooky’ Trivia Night

The North Olympic Library System invites adults to join library staff for Trivia Nights on Zoom — including a “Spooky Ghouls Theme” evening set for 6:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 30 (costumes optional).

A “Foodie Fanatics Theme” Trivia Night is set for 6:30 p.m. on Friday Nov. 27.

Halloween, Saturday, Oct. 31

Special Candy Chute activity at Habitat Store

Stop by the Sequim Habitat Store, 213 E. Washington St. between 10 a.m.-4 p.m. on Halloween day, (Saturday, Oct. 31), to check out the special free Candy Chute for social distanced trick-or-treating.

‘Boo bags’ at B&G Club

A drive-thru Halloween event is set for noon-2 p.m. Saturday, Oct.31, at the Sequim Boys & Girls Club, 400 W. Fir St. Participants get a free lunch and a “boo bag” along with greetings from costumed staff.

YMCA to host drive-through trick or treat

The YMCA of Sequim, 610 N. Fifth Ave., provides a Drive-Through Trick or Treat from 1:30-3 p.m. on Halloween, Oct. 31.

Trick-or-treaters are encouraged to dress up in costumes and drive through the YMCA parking lot with their families to see spooky decorations and pick up some healthy treats and prizes from YMCA staff in the back parking lot.

Guests are welcome to walk the route and then exit along the south property line away from vehicles.

Halloween fun at SHS

The Sequim High School ASB (associated Student Body) hosts a Halloween event from 2-3:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 31, in the main high school parking lot, 601 N. Sequim Ave.

The drive-thru/walk-thru will be socially distanced for candy and fun. Community members are welcome with a costume contest with prizes for Sequim High School students.

Masks and social distancing are required.

Rat Racers host Trunk or Treat at Mariner Café

The Olympic Peninsula Rat Racers host their second annual Trunk or Treat from 2:30-6 p.m. on Oct. 31 with a drive-thru or walk-thru at the Mariner Café, 609 W. Washington St.

Elks to host Halloween ‘drive thru’

The Sequim Elks Lodge, 143 Port Williams Road, looks to offer a “drive thru” trick-or-treat event from 3-6 p.m. on Halloween, Saturday, Oct. 31. The event is dependent on COVID-19 health guidelines; interested parties can check on the event’s status by calling 360-683-2763.

We Love Trees offers healthy treats

We Love Trees LLC, 209 S. Sequim Ave. offers healthy treats on Halloween night from 4-7 p.m. Employees will practice social distancing and visitors can drive up or walk up to a marked off space for treats. For more information, call 360-683-8890.

Sequim troop to host trick-or-treat

Scout Troop 1498 will host a COVID-19 compliant, drive-through trick-or-treat event on Saturday, Oct. 31, from 5-6 p.m. — or until all goody bags are distributed — at the Sequim Elks Lodge, 143 Port Williams Road.

King’s Way Bash becomes drive-thru

King’s Way Foursquare Church, 1023 Kitchen-Dick Road, offers its annual Bash Halloween night event as a drive-thru from 5-8 p.m. on Oct. 31, where families can receive treats from their vehicles. Call 360-683-8020 or email info@thekingsway.net for more information.

Eastern Hills hosts Trunk or Treat

Eastern Hills Community Church, 91 Savannah Lane, Carlsborg, hosts its annual Trunk or Treat from 6-8 p.m. on Halloween night, with free candy at several vehicles. Masks are encouraged. For more information, call (360) 681-4367.

Casino hosts costume contest

Blyn’s 7 Cedars Casino, 270756 U.S. Highway 101, hosts a virtual costume contest from 6-11 p.m. Oct. 31 where visitors can have their photo taken in the casino lobby. The top 10 costumes will be posted on Nov. 1 at facebook.com/7CedarsCasino. First prize receives $500, second $300 and third $200. Participants must be at least 18 years of age to enter and will get discounts for dining and casino credits.
