‘Climate Positive Landscape Design’ set

Pamela Conrad, landscape architect and founder of Climate Positive Design, will present “Climate Positive Landscape Design” at the next Green Thumb Garden Tips series event, held virtually from noon-1 p.m. Thursday, March 11, on Zoom.
Conrad will discuss the landscape carbon footprint and the differences between embodied, operational, and sequestered carbon and will provide strategies and tools to evaluate and improve the carbon capacity of landscapes. She will educate attendees on how to minimize emissions of materials, increase carbon sequestration through planting techniques, and improve ongoing operations and maintenance procedures.
Conrad will also explore the co-benefits associated with low-carbon landscapes, such as biodiversity, biophilia and stormwater management.

Conrad has published numerous works and presented internationally for developing the app Pathfinder: Landscape Carbon Calculator and the Climate Positive Design Challenge.
Sponsored by WSU Clallam County Master Gardeners, the Green Thumb Garden Tips education series sessions are available from noon-1 p.m. on the second and fourth Thursday, February through October (in November, December and January, one lecture is offered).
These classes provide home gardeners with education on research-based sustainable garden practices in Clallam County.
