Boys tennis: SHS squad volleys for wins over East JeffCo, Kingston

Sequim’s boys tennis team picked up a couple of forfeit wins and dominated in matches that were actually played, sweeping East Jefferson 7-0 on the road on May 19 to improve to 5-1 on the season.
Sequim freshman Garrett Little topped East Jefferson’s Carter Cameron 6-2, 6-1 in No. 1 singles, and Kaden Jones similarly topped Rival Reid Martin in straight sets, 6-1, 6-2.
In No. 1 doubles play, Sequim’s Dustan Koch and Henry Hughes topped East Jefferson’s Roman Humphrey and Ben Martin, 6-1 and 6-2. SHS’s Zach McCracken and Jackson Van De Wege also won in straight sets, a 6-2, 6-0 win over Rivals Antonio Rioseco and Micajah Shiflett. Kaleb Needoba and Koda Robinson added a win in No. 3 doubles, beating East JeffCo’s Sebastian Manza and Ashton MB 6-2 and 6-2.
The Wolves added a 6-1 win at Kingston on May 22, winning five matches played along with two singles match forfeits.
Little topped Buccaneer Ryan Guedeu 6-1, 7-6 (7-5) in the lone singles match. Hughes and Koch survived a 6-7 (6-8), 7-5, 10-7 tiebreaker over Eli Guedeu and Garret McDaniel in No. 1 singles play.
Jones and Conor Bear teamed up for a straight sets win in No. 3 doubles play, as did Needoba and Robinson in No. 4 doubles play.
Coming up
The Wolves were scheduled to play North Kitsap on May 24; results were not available at press time.
Sequim’s boys tennis team wraps up the 2021 schedule with a pair of home matches — May 26 against Bremerton and May 27 against Port Angeles — prior to the Olympic League tournament scheduled for Monday, May 31.
