Parenting workshop set for Nov. 3
Parents are invited to a free virtual workshop to “Strengthen Your Relationship with Your Child Through Attentive Play,” set for 6:30-8 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 3.
The event, led by Rachel Hardies, is sponsored by Prevention Works! through a grant from the Sequim Kiwanis club.
Hardies is a licensed mental health counselor who brings a variety of theories and knowledge to her clients, event organizers said. She is the owner of New Growth Counseling Services in Port Angeles.
Learn about how to help improve children’s skills and self esteem; increase the bend between an engaged parent and child; improve cooperation while parents and children work with emotions; and, have more fun together.

Lighthouse group sets annual meeting
The annual meeting of the New Dungeness Light Station Association is set for 1-3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 30, on Zoom. Join the meeting at tinyurl.com/NDLSA2021 (meeting ID 826 6367 4939, passcode 247230).
In addition to hearing about repairs, improvements and future plans, association members welcome questions and thoughts on how to continue to maintain and improve Sequim’s iconic lighthouse.
Free ‘Calling 911’ seminar set
Clallam Mosaic and Clallam County Parent to Parent are hosting a free virtual “Calling 911” seminar at 3 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 28, via Zoom.
Learn about when to call or not call 911, what information to have when calling, what to do if dialing 911 by mistake, what happens when emergency dispatchers talk with individuals with communication challenges, how a loved one may react negatively to sirens and/or flashing lights, and more.
Staff members of the Clallam County PenCom Center will explain how emergency dispatch works, and answer questions.

Parent to Parent is a program that provides information and one-to- one emotional support to parents, families, and caregivers, of individuals who have special needs. Upcoming virtual seminars include “Safe In Home” at 3 p.m. on Nov. 4, and “Therapeutic Riding at 3:30 p.m. on Nov. 11.
County conservation group seeking comments on program
The Clallam County Conservation Futures (CCCF) Program Advisory Board announced this week the release of the Conservation Futures Program draft documents.
Board members are encouraging citizens to submit comments on the draft documents by Wednesday, Nov. 3.

The Conservation Futures Program Advisory Board meets at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 10, to review comments and finalize program documents.
Floyd, Roney added to PC’s Board of Trustees
Two former Peninsula College Foundation board members, both with long histories of serving their communities, have answered the call once more. Dr. Joe Floyd of Sequim, and Dr. Claire Roney of Port Townsend, recently accepted appointments from Gov. Jay Inslee to the Peninsula College Board of Trustees.
Floyd is Professor Emeritus of Sociology at Montana State University-Billings, where he served as a faculty member for 29 years. He served on the Board of Directors of the Peninsula College Foundation from 2011-2021, as president from 2013-2017. He is a certified mediator and serves as a volunteer mediator for the Peninsula Dispute Resolution Center where he is also currently president of the Board of Directors.
Roney works as a psychologist in Port Townsend, specializing in geriatric and health psychology. She has served as an advisory board member for the Peninsula College Foundation since 2016, in addition to numerous other volunteer positions.
Floyd and Roney will begin serving Nov. 9 and will replace outgoing board members Erik Rohrer and Julie McCulloch, whose terms recently expired. They will join current Peninsula College Board members Mike Glenn (chair), Dr. Michael Maxwell and Dwayne Johnson.
