Clallam auditor sets meeting on potential voter fraud
The Clallam County Canvassing Board will hold a special canvassing meeting at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 12, at the Clallam County Courthouse in Port Angeles, 223 E. Fourth St., Port Angeles.
This open public meeting is being held to address potential voter fraud in the 2018 General Election. It will be conducted in the Elections Center room 072, located on the basement level of the courthouse
The Clallam County Canvassing Board is comprised of Clallam County auditor Shoona Riggs, county prosecuting attorney Mark Nichols and county commissioner Mark Ozias.
Cemetery board sets monthly meetings
The Gardiner Community Cemetery Commissioners will meet at 4 p.m. the second Thursday of each month, downstairs in the Gardiner Community Center, 1040 Old Gardiner Road.
Fundraiser set for Niemeyer memorial
Friends and family are raising funds to pay for a park bench to be placed in one of the public areas in Sequim to honor Dr. Matthew Niemeyer, a well-known ophthalmologist who died in mid-November at age 49 from aggressive renal cell cancer.

Friends and family host a special Celebration of Life, set for 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 8, at Dungeness Community Church, 45 The event is also being live-streamed at tinyurl.com/NiemeyerMem.
SBYC to host KSQM’s Sorensen
The Sequim Bay Yacht Club invites the public to attend the club’s next meeting, set for 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 12, in the Hendricks room of the John Wayne Marina Building, 2577 West Sequim Bay Road.
The guest speaker is Susan Sorensen, public relations representative for KSQM 91.5 FM. KSQM is a listener-supported, commercial-free community radio that broadcasts from downtown Sequim. Sorensen will discuss the mission and operations of KSQM, and give numerous examples of the impact of the station on the community, and answer questions. Masks are required to attend the meeting.
Libraries extend hours
Beginning this week, the North Olympic Library System (NOLS) is expanding its hours. The adjustment, NOLS officials note, sets abut the same amount of hours offered prior to COVID-19 pandemic restrictions. Sequim, Port Angeles and Forks branches will open an hour earlier (9 a.m.) on Fridays and Saturdays.
The new hours at the Sequim branch, 630 N. Sequim Ave., and Port Angels branch, 2210 S. Peabody St., are: 10 a.m.-7 p.m., Monday-Thursday; 9 a.m.-6 p.m. on Fridays, and 9 a.m.-5 p.m. on Saturdays.

‘Walk Safely’ forum set in Port Angeles
Walk Safely, PA! a public forum for seniors to discuss their experiences walking and wheeling around peninsula towns, is set for 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 10, at the Port Angeles Senior Center, 328 E. Seventh St.
Bertha Cooper, a featured columnist for the Sequim Gazette, an award-winning author and health care consultant, is the featured speaker. who will lead a discussion, “How do we make our towns accessible and welcoming?”
The forum is presented by the Port Angeles Senior Center and the Port Angeles Public Safety Advisory Board’s Senior Committee.
Attendees must be fully vaccinated plus booster shot and wear a mask. People can also attend by Zoom. A survey on the topic is available at the Center or call Aubry at 360-457-7004 or Gayle at 360-809-4717 to receive it by email.
Library sale cancelled
The Friends of Sequim Library’s 2nd Saturday sale scheduled for Jan. 8 has been cancelled because of poor weather and a lack of donations, organizers said in late December.
The monthly event is slated to return on Feb. 12.
Salal permit sales to begin
Permits for commercial-use salal go on sale Jan. 5 at the Olympic National Forest offices. Permit sales will begin at 9 a.m. at the Forks and Quilcene offices, and 10 a.m. at the Quinault office. Those buying a permit must be at least 18 years of age and must provide a valid U.S. Federal or State picture identification. Only cash or checks will be accepted; no credit cards or debit cards will be accepted. A lottery system will be used if the demand for permits exceeds the supply.
Persons harvesting salal with the purpose of selling, must carry a commercial-use permit while picking; 100 permits will be available for sale at $150 a permit. Fifty permits will be offered from the Quilcene office, 295142 Highway 101 S., for harvest areas located within Mason County and the east side of Clallam and Jefferson Counties. Twenty-five permits will be offered from the Forks office, 437 Tillicum Lane, for the west-side of Clallam County and 25 permits will be offered from the Quinault office, 353 South Shore Road, for harvest areas within Grays Harbor County and the west side of Jefferson County.

Rayonier Mill reunion set for March
The Rayonier Mill 25-year-reunion is scheduled for 3-7 p.m. Saturday, March 5, at the Fraternal Order of Eagles, 2843 E. Myrtle St., Port Angeles.
The reunion is open to anyone who worked at Rayonier Mill, as well as their spouse or partner; deli trays/appetizers will be provided.
