Garden plots available at Sequim park

Two garden plots have recently become available at June Robinson Memorial Park for the 2022 calendar year. Rentals are $45 for the year.

Walk Safely virtual forum set for Feb. 7

Walk Safely, PA! a public forum, is set for 11 a.m.-12:15 p.m. Monday, Feb. 7, via Zoom.

Deputy Tracey Kellas, Clallam County Sheriff’s Department Animal Control, will discuss the role, responsibilities and jurisdiction of the Animal Control Deputy. She will also tell of her experiences as a deputy, her training and the nuances of being a successful Animal Control Deputy, organizers say.

Valentine kits available at libraries

The North Olympic Library System invites people of all ages to explore creativity and connect with loved ones with take-home Valentine card-making supplies, available at each branch starting Friday, Feb. 4.

NOLS supplies paper, envelopes, glue, stickers and more to help construct an original design. Limit is one per person, and will be offered while supplies last.

Fundraiser set for Sequim scout troop

Sequim Scout Troop 1498 hosts a silent auction and spaghetti dinner fundraiser this month.

Drive-through pick up dinners are available between 5-7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 12, at the Sequim Elks Lodge, 143 Port Williams Road; cost is $10 in advance, $15 the day of the event.

The silent auction is set for Feb. 5-12 online at bit.ly/ScoutFundraiser. items include home-baked confections, experiences, fund-a-need items, Valentine’s Day gifts and more.

Genealogy meeting set for Feb. 12

Richard Hill presents his story of how he used DNA to discover his biological parents, and introduces recent methods of finding unknown relatives in a Genealogy Society of Clallam County (CCGS) presentation at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 12, on Zoom.

Hill, who was the first adoptee to find his birth family using DNA technology, is a nationally-known speaker, genealogist and author. His book, “Finding Family: My Search for Roots and the Secrets in My DNA,” has been well received by the literary and genealogical communities, CCGS representatives said.

People interested are invited to hear his story online or at the CCGS Research Center, 403 E. Eighth St., Port Angeles; there is no charge. To watch at home, call the Society at 360-417-5000 to obtain the Zoom meeting number and passcode.

Clallam parks district seeking board commissioner

The Clallam County Parks & Recreation District No. 1 is seeking to fill a vacancy on its board.

The commission oversees the facility at 610 N. Fifth Ave., formerly known as the Sequim Aquatic Recreation Center (SARC); it is leased for operation and maintenance to the Olympic Peninsula YMCA.

This is a two-year term that expires in December 2023. Applicants must be registered to vote and must reside within the portion of the Sequim School District boundaries included within Clallam County.
