Bowling: Sequim’s McKeown places 14th at state final

Sequim High bowlers Madison McKeown and Nikoline Updike made the most of their 2021-2022 season, capping the campaign at the state 1A/2A tourney at Narrows Plaza Bowl in University Place last week.

McKeown, a senior and three-time state qualifier, earned her best finish in 14th place, bowling a four-game, 679-pin series that she capped with 198 pins in her final prep game.

McKeown tied for 20th place at state as a freshman and placed 36th at state as a sophomore.

Updike, a freshman, placed 41st with a 541-pin series. Her best single-game effort was a 154-pin third game.

Black Hills took the 1A/2A team title with 5,126 pin, with Columbia River second, WF West third and the Olympic League’s top team Klahowya in fourth.

Piper Chalmers of WF West was the 1A/2A individual champ with 900 pins in four games, including a classification-best 258-pin game.
