Learn more about succulents at Green Thumbs presentation

Join Clallam County Master Gardener Bob Blackett for the upcoming Green Thumb presentation about “Succulents” from noon-1 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 8, on Zoom.

From agave to burro’s tail to Christmas cactus, there are more than 10,000 varieties of succulents — many that are hardy and can tolerate pests and diseases.

Bob and his wife Debbie Harrison moved to Sequim three years ago. They are in the first post-COVID class of master gardeners, having their 12-week training entirely online. But they have roots in Tucson and the Sonoran Desert, were docents at the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum and are admitted cactus/succulent nuts. They are in charge of the succulent garden at Clallam County Master Gardeners’ Woodcock Demonstration Garden.

Bob is a chemist, taught chemistry for two years in the U.S. Peace Corps in Africa, and worked a career in Arizona crime laboratories as a DNA analyst.

Sponsored by the WSU Clallam County Master Gardeners, Green Thumb presentations are held on the second and fourth Thursday each month through October (November, December, and January, one lecture is offered). They cover basic gardening topics relevant to most home gardeners.
