Sequim High’s Morgan Kayser, left, and Nikoline Updike are all smiles after earning berths to the state 2A state bowling tournament with strong efforts at the West Central District tournament in Silverdale on Jan. 28.

Rack up the pins; their season isn’t over yet.

Two Sequim high bowlers earned tickets to the state 1A/2A state tournament, set for Feb. 1-4 at Bowlero in Tukwila, after strong efforts at the West Central District tourney in Silverdale on Jan. 28.

Morgan Kayser, a junior, punched her ticket with a fifth-place finish at districts after racking up 502 pins in three games.

Updike, a sophomore, snagged the final district spot with a 447-pin series, placing 18th overall at districts. It’s the second state berth in as many seasons for Updike, who placed 41st at state as a freshman in 2021-2022.

Port Angeles, newly-formed this season, nearly grabbed a team berth to state but fell short by one spot in the team scores; the Roughriders finished fifth with 2,592 total pins, behind district champ Klahowya (2,995), Steilacoom (2,946), Franklin Pierce (2,753) and Washington (2,601).

The Riders will still send two individuals to state: Abby Robinson, who placed third overall at districts, and Paige Pangaro, who placed 16th.
