Rainshadow Cafe hosts fundraiser for ailing student

Rainshadow Cafe hosted a fundraiser Saturday evening, Sept. 27, for the family of former employee Jennifer Hanshaw.

Ember Hanshaw, a Sequim sixth-grader and the daughter of Jennifer and her husband Tim, was diagnosed last spring with a cluster of life-threatening conditions that affect just one in 100 million people.

The diagnoses came last spring after Ember was hospitalized with pneumonia.

Doctors at Seattle Children’s Hospital discovered that Ember has ductus arteriosus, which is a congenital heart disease, as well as pediatric pulmonary hypertension, right ventricle dysfunction, Eisenmenger syndrome and a genetic condition called HHT.

Jennifer works in diagnostic imaging for Olympic Medical Center in Sequim and Tim does remodel work. The couple also has a younger daughter, Lena.

As of press time, a GoFundMe page for Ember — gofundme.com/f/aid-embers-journey-to-health-and-hope — had raised $14,446 – 58% of the $25,000 goal.
