Sequim’s Linda Dowdell, resident music director for Key City Public Theatre in Port Townsend, joyfully accepts an award for Original Musical Composition at the 2025 Sound on Stage Awards. Dowdell won the honor along with Jessica Welch for “Wild Man of the Wynoochee,” which received five nominations.

Key City Public Theatre in Port Townsend (KCPT) won three awards from eight nominations at the 2025 Sound on Stage Awards at Bainbridge Island Performing Arts, and the work of Sequim resident Linda Dowdell, KCPT’s current residential music director, played a role in one of those awards.

The critically acclaimed “Wild Man of the Wynoochee” received five nominations, including: Best Original Production (Dowdell and Jessica Welsh); Original Music Composition (Dowdell and Welsh); Best Direction-Musical (Brendan Chambers); Achievement in Sound Design-Musical (Taylor Thomas Marsh); and Performance by a Lead Actor-Musical (Casey Raiha).

From these, KCPT took home two awards — Original Music Composition and Achievement in Sound Design.

KCPT’s third win was for Performance by a Lead Actor in a Play, awarded to Geoffrey Simmons for his portrayal of Leontes in Shakespeare’s “The Winter’s Tale,” adapted and directed by Denise Winter.

The theatre’s additional nominations included: Best Original Production — Carmelita by Ana Maria Campoy, and Best Theatre Experience — a return nomination in this category, which Key City won in 2024.
