The Water Committee of the League of Women Voters of Clallam County has announced the availability of a newly developed digital app that provides a real-time display of the amount of water flowing in the Dungeness River. The app is designed for iOS and Android phones and tablets. It is available for free from both the Apple and Google Play stores.
This app was developed by a collaborative team representing the Water Committee of the League of Women Voters of Clallam County in consultation with members of the Dungeness River management team and other specialists. Software development was funded by a grant administered by the Jamestown S’Klallam Tribe.
The app and associated widget will display the current streamflow (represented as cubic feet of water flowing per second) in the Dungeness River against a background color with a description of current conditions. An associated web page provides further detail as well as a color-coded chart of the flow ranges and associated actions recommended for people interacting with irrigation water or the river itself.
According to a press release, the Dungeness River flow was chosen as a focus for outreach because it is illustrative of the general health of water resources in the Dungeness basin, since both surface and groundwater resources are responsive to the availability of winter snowpack and summer rainfall.
To get the app, search for “Dungeness River Flow Status” from the Apple or Google app store, or by browsing to the app’s webpage: dungenessflow.org/Mobile-Applications.
