A record-setting Cranksgiving

Sequim’s 15th Cranksgiving, held on Saturday, Nov. 22, drew a record number of cyclists (84) and resulted in donations to the Sequim Food Bank of more than $6,400 and more than 2,000 pounds of food, according to Executive Director Andra Smith.

Cranksgiving, an effort to raise money and food for community food banks, was started in New York City in 1999. More than 100 cities across the country now participate.

Sequim’s event is open to riders of all ages and involves swag and prizes donated by local merchants and national bicycle brands. Over the years, it has brought in more than 10 tons of food and over $27,000 in donations, with participants purchasing food from along Washington Street.
