Elementary students go big in food drive

Some of Sequim’s smallest residents gave big donations through the annual 12 Days of Giving food drive.

From Dec. 2-17, students at Greywolf Elementary and Helen Haller Elementary donated a combined 3,279 pounds of food over the three-week span.

Students were asked to bring different items each day, including bags of rice (Dec. 2), jars of peanut butter (Dec. 8), boxes of cereal (Dec. 9), canned goods (various), and much more.

“It’s a blessing to live in such a generous community,” food bank staff wrote on social media.

Some classes won bonus recess for collecting the most food each day, including Sharon Murphy’s kindergarten class, and Jennifer Newton’s second grade class at Greywolf.
