The Sequim Community Orchestra presents its annual Fall Concert on Nov. 15 at Trinity United Methodist Church at 7 p.m. The roughly 60-piece orchestra will play Russian Choral and Overture by Tchaikovsky, William Boyce’s Symphony No. 8, and The Swan of Tuonella featuring Michael Schmidt on the English horn.
Sequim Community Orchestra concerts are free to attend. Families with children are encouraged to attend SCO concerts which generally run less than an hour.
The Sequim Community Orchestra is a nonprofit organization dedicated to education in orchestral music and performance for musicians of all ages. It accepts adult and high school students of string and wind instruments without audition.
A bake sale will be held at the concert to benefit the Peninsula Community Youth Orchestra, a program the SCO administers which provides group string classes for children.
As of fall 2025, the Peninsula Community Youth Orchestra offers group classes for violin, viola, cello, and bass for ages 6 and up in both Port Angeles and Sequim.
Sequim beginner classes for string students age 6 and up are full and in full swing. In Port Angeles there are a few spots for students who have been studying a string instrument less than one year privately who would like to participate in a group class, or for any string students who would like to try out a new instrument and practice a new clef.
Classes for ages 3-6
Starting in January, the Peninsula Community Youth Orchestra will partner with Christine Faught of String Beans Studio to bring early music education for 3- to 6-year-olds with and without violin to Port Angeles and Sequim.
Suzuki Sprouts classes will provide foundational violin studies and Sound Sprouts classes will provide foundational music classes. Both classes encourage parent participation and rely on the parent and child playing and learning together. For more information, see pcyo.kids/sprouts.
Family holiday jams
This December, the Peninsula Community Youth Orchestra will offer an organized collection of short holiday family jams to be held across Clallam County taught by local musicians and private teachers playing easy beginner and intermediate holiday music.
Each holiday jam will welcome up to five students, and coaches will invite students playing instruments they are personally familiar with, allowing family and friends to play along with beginner and intermediate string students on guitar, piano, or wind instruments as able.
Any students of the appropriate age playing the appropriate instruments may sign up. For more information or to sign up, go to pcyo.kids/events/2025-holiday-jams.
