A 54-year-old man was found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot after barricading himself in a trailer west of Sequim, according to Clallam County Sheriff’s Office.

On Saturday afternoon, Nov. 22, deputies responded to a report of a domestic disturbance in the 900 block of Lemmon Road near Old Olympic Highway in Port Angeles, said Undersheriff Loraine Shore in a press release issued Sunday evening, Nov. 23.

Shore said parties related to law enforcement that Jesse G. Yaun had threatened to kill his family members and burn down their residence while holding a gas can before going into his nearby travel trailer.

After deputies arrived, they interviewed witnesses and determined there was probable cause to arrest Yaun for felony harassment – domestic violence.

Shore said witnesses indicated there was reasonable belief that Yaun had the ability and means to carry out his threats, had a loaded semi-automatic handgun, and may have been under the influence of methamphetamine.

Yaun, a convicted felon, was prohibited from possessing any firearm.

Law enforcement evacuated nearby residences for safety while deputies secured the scene and formulated a safe response plan, Shore said.

Deputies obtained a search warrant to arrest Yaun, as trained negotiators were called to the scene, along with the Peninsula Crisis Response Team (PCRT) with two armored vehicles.

Shore said negotiators communicated with Yaun for nearly two hours to attempt to de-escalate the situation and encourage him to surrender peacefully, but a single gunshot was heard.

Peninsula Crisis Response Team members breached the locked trailer door and found Yaun deceased with a single gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead by a medic on scene, Shore said.

A .40 caliber semi-automatic pistol believed to have been used in the incident was recovered by investigators near Yaun’s body.

The Clallam County Coroner’s Office has taken jurisdiction over Yaun’s remains, Shore said.
