Presentation about honeybees slated for Saturday

On Saturday, Aug. 22, Cindy Ericksen will lead a presentation about honeybees with the community.

She is the president of the North Olympic Peninsula Beekeeper’s Association and has been a Master Gardener for over nine years.

She maintains the bee hive at the Woodcock Demonstration Garden which is relied upon to pollinate the various vegetable crops and orchard within the garden.

The class will be at 10 a.m. at the Master Gardener’s Woodcock Demonstration Garden, 2711 Woodcock Road. The presentation is free and open to the public.

During Ericksen’s presentation, she will discuss threats to pollinators and the importance of protecting and restoring pollinator habitat to encourage bee activity.

Ericksen also will give the audience steps to consider while creating a landscape to support local pollinators.

Honeybee populations have been seeing a decline in the past years, so it is vital to take steps to promote their presence in gardens and other local habitats.
