Hear African music
Multicultural dance and music company Gansango will visit the North Olympic Library System on Tuesday, Aug. 2, as part of the library’s ongoing summer reading program for young people and families. The first performance will be at 10:30 a.m. at the Sequim Library, 630 N. Sequim Ave., followed by a 2 p.m. show at the Port Angeles Library, 2210 S. Peabody St. Gansango Music & Dance features a multicultural group of international dancers and musicians presenting traditional and contemporary dance and music from West Africa.
Meditation at library
Join Jikyo Wolfer of Joyous Refuge for an introductory session to meditation at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 2, at the Port Angeles Library, 2210 S. Peabody St. This free program will take place on the lawn outside the main entrance to the library. Bring a yoga mat or beach towel if desired. Wolfer is a Soto Zen Buddhist priest and Dharma teacher at Joyous Refuge in Port Angeles, and began her meditation practice in 1987. Celtic music at library
Your lawn chair, a blanket and some good eats are all you need to enjoy live tunes at the Sequim Library’s annual Summertime Music! Outdoor Concert Series. Celtic band and dance troupe Lobo Del Mar will share its global sound at 6 p.m. Friday, July 29, on the outdoor stage behind the library. The Sequim Library is at 630 North Sequim Ave. in Sequim.
‘Tempest’ at PAFAC
The Port Angeles Fine Arts Center, 1203 E. Lauridsen Blvd., will present “The Tempest” by William Shakespeare in an outdoor free production at 5:30 p.m. July 29-31 and Aug. 5-7. The grounds open at 4:30 p.m. for picnicking. Admission is free but donations are suggested.
‘Mother Goose’ on tap
The Port Angeles Community Players Children’s Theatre will perform “The Search for Mother Goose” by Mitchell Roush at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 1, at the Port Angeles Library. In this interactive comedy, Mother Goose’s son embarks on a journey through Nursery Rhyme Land. The Port Angeles Community Players Children’s Theatre produces plays for youth by youth ages 4-18. Royalty at library
The Sequim Library will offer a special “Princess Storytime” featuring Sequim Irrigation Festival royalty at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 3. Royal attire is encouraged for this special storytime featuring songs, stories and a craft. Bring your camera to capture one-on-one photos with the princesses and rub elbows with local royalty. This event will be held on the outdoor stage behind the library, weather permitting.
Fiber arts entries sought
The City Arts Advisory Commission is seeking entries of fiber arts, in any media that uses fiber, for the next exhibit to be displayed in the lobby of the Civic Center at 152 W. Cedar St. The art pieces must be no larger than nine square feet and not exceed 50 pounds per piece. Deadline for submissions is Sept. 9. The exhibit will be on display from Oct. 1-Dec. 31. All entries will be juried by the CAAC. An artist reception will be Oct. 7. OTA asks for volunteers
Olympic Theatre Arts is rolling out a new expanded and enhanced volunteer program with the hope of recruiting even more active team members. There are many different types of opportunities for volunteers within the theater company and community center. For new or existing team members, the OTA volunteer sign-up form can be found a www.olympictheatrearts.org. Click on OTA Opportunities and then the Volunteer category on the pull-down menu. Theater intensive for teens
Olympic Theatre Arts, 414 N. Sequim Ave., Sequim, will offer a workshop, that with professional Broadway and Off Broadway performers, trains motivated teens to develop skills in singing, acting, dancing, directing and collaborating. The resulting performance is offered twice on the final day of the workshop. Lunch is provided by Pacific Pantry of Sequim. The cost is $475 for two weeks, $250 for the second week alone.
