Input sought on waste management plan

The Clallam County Solid Waste Advisory Committee recently announced the release of the Preliminary Draft of the Clallam County Comprehensive Solid Waste Management Plan for public comment. Read the plan at www.clallam.net/boards/SWAC.

Public comments will be taken through Jan. 3. After the public comment period, the draft plan will be reviewed by the Department of Ecology and finalized for adoption in 2014.

The Draft plan includes:

• Assessment of current and future solid waste handling needs and operations

• Program for surveillance and control

• Cost assessment and projections for capital acquisition and operations

• Waste reduction and recycling strategies

The plan also includes background elements of solid waste planning such as current solid waste conditions in Clallam County, the legal authority of the Draft CSWMP, and recommendations regarding solid waste over the next five-year planning cycle.
