Traffic court adds e-mail option

In an effort to improve accessibility to Clallam County District Court 1, Judge Rick Porter is offering an e-mail traffic court option for anyone who gets a traffic ticket, starting Jan. 6.

After Jan. 6, go to the Clallam County website, District Court 1 page, and submit a mitigation and/or contested statements for Porter’s consideration. He will review the statement and decide whether to reduce or even dismiss the ticket. Users should receive a decision by e-mail within two weeks.

Under the new program, processing times for the new e-mail traffic court will be faster than scheduling in-court hearings and there will be no additional costs or fees associated with the e-mail traffic court, Porter said.

For those that prefer to mitigate or contest their traffic ticket in court, Porter still will have a traffic calendar on the first and third Thursday of each month at 9 a.m. and a Sequim traffic calendar on the second Friday of each month at 1:30 p.m. at the Sequim Transit Center.
