Sequim man sentenced in OPNET heroin case

Derek A. Batton, 31, of Sequim, was sentenced Jan. 27 to serve 20 months total confinement in state prison, to be followed by 12 months in community custody.

Derek A. Batton, 31, of Sequim, was sentenced Jan. 27 to serve 20 months total confinement in state prison, to be followed by 12 months in community custody.

His sentence is a result of a guilty plea to delivering heroin to Olympic Peninsula Narcotics Enforcement Team members on Jan. 15, 2013, and again on Jan. 17, 2013.

Batton’s previous felony convictions include third-degree assault, attempt to elude pursuing police vehicle, possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver and possession of a controlled substance.

During the investigation OPNET developed probable cause to believe that Batton was selling heroin out of a travel trailer in the vicinity of Sequim Avenue and Cedar Street in Sequim.
