County board talks shoreline program

The Clallam County Planning Commission meets at 6:30 p.m. today, June 3, at the Clallam County Courthouse, 223 E. Fourth St., Port Angeles.

Local panel to discuss the future of fish

Streamkeepers presents a panel discussion at 6:30 p.m. today, June 3, at the Landing Mall in Port Angeles on “The Future of Fish.”

The panel looks at a global seafood system by bringing together stakeholders from the North Olympic Peninsula who play different roles in harvesting or providing the seafood. Panelists include Robert Elofson, Lower Elwha Klallam Tribe; Neil Conklin, Bella Italia; Graham Young, University of Washington Aquatic & Fisheries Sciences; and Alan Cook, Icicle Seafoods with moderator Pete Granger, a seafood industry specialist of Washington Sea Grant.

Farewell reception set for Sequim Supt. Shea

A farewell reception for Superintendent Kelly Shea is planned for Wednesday, June 10, in the district board room, inside the old high school building at 503 N. Sequim Ave. Staff and community members are invited to drop by between 3:30-5:30 p.m. for light refreshments and to say goodbye.

Shea has served as superintendent of the Sequim School District since July 2012. He accepted a position with the East Valley School District in Spokane earlier this year in order to relocate closer to family.

His last day in the district will be June 30.

Trinity rummage sale set

Selections ranging from tools to jewelry will be offered at the annual rummage sale at Trinity United Methodist Church, 100 S. Blake Ave., from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. Friday, June 5, and 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, June 6.

Among other items will be furniture, appliances, clothing, books, plants and toys.

Proceeds support the church’s community projects. Information is available from the church at 683-5367.

OMC board meets

The Olympic Medical Center Board of Commissioners meet in its regularly scheduled meeting at 12:30 p.m. today, June 3, in Linkletter Hall in the basement conference area of the hospital at 939 Caroline St., Port Angeles.

The agenda includes a presentation from Susan Sorenson, chairman of Citizens for SARC, a catastrophic earthquake and tsunami update from former state Rep. Jim Buck and 2015-2017 Strategic Plan Update from Eric Lewis, Olympic Medical Center’s chief executive officer.

Bunco and luncheon benefit to aid Children’s

The Sequim Guild will host an afternoon of bunco and a luncheon to benefit Seattle Children’s Hospital beginning at 11:30 a.m. Friday, June 5, at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 525 N. Fifth Ave.,

Sequim. The cost is $15 for both and there will be silent auction items and prizes.

Democrats host Charter Commission members

Clallam County Democrats will host a panel of elected representatives to the Charter Review Commission who will discuss the activities of the 2015 Charter Review Commission from 6-7:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 10, at Democratic Headquarters at 124-A W. First St., Port Angeles.

As the Charter Review Commission prepares to hold its second series of public hearings across the county, commission members Selinda Barkhuis, Steve Burke, Nola Judd, Ted Miller and Norma Turner discuss the work of the commission and take audience questions.

Forum on hurting youths planned

The community is invited and encouraged to attend a forum on “A Plan to Serve Our Most Vulnerable Youth” from 6:15-8 p.m. Thursday, June 11, in the high school auditorium. Sequim Police Chief Bill Dickinson, teacher Jennifer Van De Wege and Kim Leach, executive director of Serenity House, will speak about the plight of area at-risk youth.

Several representatives from The Coffee Oasis in Kitsap County, a program for at-risk youth, will discuss its history, success and to generate interest in bringing the program to Sequim.

Rainbow car wash   fundraiser is Saturday

Sequim Rainbow girls are having a car wash fundraiser from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, June 6, at the Sequim Masonic Lodge, 700 S. Fifth Ave.

Checkpoints group screens film

Stop The Checkpoints will meet from 6-8 p.m. Monday, June 8, in the Carver Room at the Port Angeles Library, 2210 S. Peabody St., Port Angeles. On the agenda is a 90-minute 2014 documentary film called “Into the Fire,” about the G20 Summit, that questions the rise of the police state and destruction of civil rights.

Grange sponsors clubs event this Saturday

Sequim Prairie Grange #1108 is sponsoring the first annual Clubs and Organizations Event from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday June 6. Thrift shop open

The Sequim Dungeness Hospital Guilds thrift shop, 204 W. Bell St. in Sequim, will be open from 11 a.m.-3 pm. Saturday, June 6, featuring summer fashions for the entire family, games, books, puzzles, furniture, linens, kitchen ware and fine jewelry and handbags. Fledglings topic of birding class

Backyard Birding will meet from 10 a.m.-noon Saturday, June 6, at the Dungeness River Audubon Center, 2151 W. Hendrickson Road, Sequim.

Ken Wiersema, local Olympic Peninsula Audubon Society birder, will discuss “Birds Out of the Nest.” Topics include adult bird roles in feeding and rearing young birds, changes in feeding needs, making your property less hazardous to young birds and lifestyles of young birds. There is a $5 fee for those over 18 years. Since this will be the final session of Backyard Birding, watch for announcements of the 2015-2016 series of Backyard Birding.
