All walkers are invited to join the Olympic Peninsula Explorers this Saturday, June 27, for a 6- or 10-kilometer walk at Sol Duc Falls.
The walk itself is free unless you wish to get credit from the American Volkssport Association; however, participants need a National Parks Pass to enter the park or to pay an entry fee.
All walkers required to sign up at the Fairmount Restaurant, US Hwy 101 West, 1127 Lauridsen Blvd., Port Angeles, between 8:45-9 a.m.
Along this trail the forest mixes the elements of the Rain Forest to the west with plants of the rain shadow to the east. As the trail reaches the spectacular Sol Duc Falls the route turns down stream following the east bank back to the start point.
There are uneven rocks on the first part of the trail and roots along the way, so walk organizers suggest wearing sturdy shoes and using walking sticks.
This walk is not for baby strollers or wheelchairs; restrooms are available along the way. Future walks include: July 7, Dungeness Spit; July 18, Fort Flagler workers walk, and July 25, Victoria, B.C., guests of the Canadian Volkssporters.
