It wasn’t exactly a landmark win, but last week’s win at Sequim gave Klahowya’s tennis team a bit of revenge – about eight years’ worth.

The Eagles topped

Sequim 5-2 on March 24, their first win against the Wolves in eight-plus seasons (and 15 matches) since the teams split their coed squads to play separate boys and girls seasons in 2002.

Klahowya swept the top two singles matches as Maggie Becker downed

Sequim’s Kyla Hall 6-0 and 6-1 while Katy Seal dropped Sequim’s Stacey Hanson, 6-4 and 6-0.

Katrina Chan manages a singles win, topping Klahowya’s Alexi Webster 6-0 and 6-1.

Sequim managed one doubles win as Calli Norman and Sarah Marble beat Dominique Bozarth and Brynna Mosely in straight sets.

In No. 3 doubles play,

Sequim’s Alice Hastings and Hillary Smith put up quite a battle before dropping a three-set match to Brittany Hassette and Megan Spiegel by scores of 6-7 (8-10), 7-6 (10-8), 11-9.

The match results were expected, said Sequim coach Mark Textor, considering the Eagles are the defending state 2A co-champions.

In 2009, the Wolves topped Klahowya twice but lost more individual or doubles matches to the Eagles (five) than any other team in the league.

When Sequim students return from spring break, the Wolves hit the road for a pair of Olympic League match-ups. Sequim is at Kingston on April 7 and then takes on Port Townsend on April 9 at Chimacum High’s courts.
