Published 5:19 pm Wednesday, March 19, 2014

Wild Birds Unlimited hosts its sixth annual Earth Day celebration from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, April 23, at 275953 Highway 101, Gardiner, featuring music, food, fun and wildlife.

Jaye and Gary Moore, founders of the nonprofit Northwest Raptor Center, present rehabilitated birds of prey; Jefferson County Marine Resources Committee provides a touch tank; Cort Armstrong and the Northwest Bluegrass Band jam all afternoon and Alder Wood Bistro offers organic food.

Booths representing local organizations share programs to support, protect and preserve native wildlife and habitat. Vendors offer native plants, recycled wood furniture, honey, and eco-friendly arts and crafts.

Event organizers encourage visitors to bring lawn chairs and blankets for relaxed fun.

Donations also are requested for the raptor center, which cares for many species and needs aquariums, blankets, dog food, animal-watering bottles, baby bottles, powdered goat’s milk, KMR, alfalfa, chain-link fencing and an enclosed trailer.
