Wolves splash Klahowya’s Eagles for first victory

What a way to head into the break.

Sequim High’s boys swimmers and divers picked up their first win of the season in a 103-82 win against Klahowya on Dec. 14.

The Wolves took first place in eight events and went 1-2 in the 200 medley relay, 50 free and 100 free events.

Senior captain Thomas Moores dropped five seconds off his top 100 free time and qualified for districts, while Sequim’s 200 free relay team — Noe Calderon, Douglas Dunbar, Kris Petersen and Drew Rickerson — also qualified for districts.

Calderon qualified for district in the 100 breaststroke in his first meet of the season.

Moores dropped a half-second off his 50 free time (24.17) and is less than a second off a state qualifying mark in the event.

Petersen bettered his 100 free time by more than a second.

Several other Sequim swimmers posted their best times of the season. David Vollenweider dropped a full minute in the 500 free and five seconds off his 200 individual medley best. Kiano Stoppani shed 22 seconds off his previous top 200 free effort. Keil Wood cut four seconds from his 100 backstroke time.

Unchallenged, Sequim’s divers went 1-2-3. Connor Christianson, who has posted Sequim’s top scores in the first three meets, scored 171.2 points, nearly 20 points better than his previous best.

The Wolves are off until Jan. 6, when they swim at Port Angeles.
