A welcome reception is scheduled for 3:15 p.m. Friday, Sept. 19, at the Sequim Transit Center, 190 W. Cedar St., to greet a delegation of 10 students and three chaperones from the City of Sequim’s Sister City, Shiso, Japan.

At the reception, the guests will meet city officials, Sister City Association Members and their host families. The Sequim host families are the homes of the Sequim High School students who, along with chaperones Olympic Medical Center CEO Eric Lewis, Sequim mayor Candace Pratt and city council member/former mayor Laura Dubois, will travel to Shiso City, Japan, from Oct. 20-29.

Guests from Shiso City will be in Sequim through Tuesday, Sept. 23. Their itinerary includes visiting local Sequim schools and enjoying Sequim attractions.

The cities of Yamasaki, Hyogo Prefecture in Japan and Sequim signed a Memorandum of Understanding on Oct. 31, 1992. In 2004, Yamasaki merged with four other cities to form the present day city of Shiso.

The Sister City Association was formed to: • Promote friendship and mutual understanding between our communities • Coordinate student educational exchanges • Support the Friendship Garden located at the entrance to Carrie Blake Park.
