Shopper’s haven in Sequim this week

Whether you prefer to brave the lines for a deal on Black Friday or to stroll into a shop on Small Business Saturday, Sequim’s retailers seem ready to try to accommodate shoppers this holiday season.

As custom, several businesses are opening early on Nov. 28 for the post-Thanksgiving shopping rush while other national chains start sales on Thanksgiving night. Several local businesses extend their hours on Saturday in conjunction with Santa Claus and the Sequim tree lighting, too, at Centennial Place, the northeast corner of Washington Street and Sequim Avenue.

On Thanksgiving two businesses and a church are offering free dinners for those in-need and/or as a benefit.

Thanksgiving, Nov. 27, openings:

• Sunny Farms, 261461 U.S. Highway 101, opens 8 a.m.-2 p.m. Thursday.

• Rite Aid, 520 W. Washington St., opens 8-5 p.m. Thursday.

• Walgreens, 490 W. Washington St, opens 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Thursday.

• JCPenney, 651 W. Washington St., opens at 5 p.m. Thursday and closes at 8 p.m. Saturday.

• QFC, 990 E. Washington St., closes at 6 p.m. Thursday and reopens at 5 a.m. Friday.

• Office Depot, 1235 W Washington St., opens 6 p.m.-9 p.m. Thursday and 8 a.m.- 8 p.m. Friday.

• Sears, 232 Alley Road, opens at 6 -11 p.m. Thursday and 7 a.m.- 8 p.m. Friday.

• Safeway, 680 W. Washington St. remains open 24 hours.

• Walmart, 1110 W. Washington St., remains opens Thanksgiving with specials beginning at 6 p.m.

• Ross Dress for Less, 1055 W. Washington St., opens at 7 p.m. Thursday and remains open until 11:30 p.m. Friday.

Free Sequim Dinners

• Celebrate Thanksgiving at Trinity

A traditional Thanksgiving turkey dinner will be served at 4 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day at Trinity United Methodist Church, 100 S. Blake Ave. Reservations are requested by phoning the church at 683-5367 between 9 a.m.-2 p.m. by Wednesday or by e-mail to dinners@sequimtumc.org.

• Free dinner at Hardy’s

Hardy’s Market, 10200 Old Olympic Highway, invites the public to enjoy a complimentary traditional Thanksgiving dinner. Dine in or take with you while supplies last from 11 a.m. Thanksgiving Day, Nov 27.

• Sunshine benefit dinner

Sunshine Cafe hosts its 12th annual freewill donation Harvest Dinner plus all the trimmings from noon-5 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 27, at 145 W. Washington St., with proceeds to benefit Mary Beth Beuke as she fights to overcome cancer. Dine in or carry out. Reservations are suggested; call 683-4282.

• Santa and more celebrate

Sequim City Band opens a full day of activities at Sequim Centennial Place at the intersection of Washington Street and Sequim Avenue. The band will perform at 1 p.m. with Santa arriving via carriage at 2 p.m. and at 5 p.m. the community tree lighting takes place.

Many downtown and small celebrate Small Business Saturday with promotions, events and extended hours.

• The Good Book, 108 W. Washington St., hosts We Do Fudge from 1-5 p.m. Saturday.

• Maggie Mays Espresso & Outfitter appears at Centennial Place from 1-5 p.m. Saturday.

• The Museum & Arts Center, 175 W. Cedar St., opens until 6 p.m. Saturday for the North Olympic Fiber Arts Festival Show and Sale.

• A Dropped Stitch, 136 S. Second Ave. opens until 6:30 p.m. Saturday.

• Blue Whole Gallery, 129 W. Washington St., opens until 7 p.m. Saturday.
