The Sequim Lavender Growers Association announces that it will be featured at the Sequim Museum  & Arts Center during July, lavender harvest and celebration season.

The connection the lavender industry has made with the community over the previous decades as an agri-tourism destination and economic driver has given the region the distinction of being known as the “Lavender Capital of North America®.”

The exhibit will display artwork by regional and award-winning artists from previous Sequim Lavender Festival poster selections. The content of the artwork demonstrates the beauty of the plant, in a commercial and natural setting, its importance for tourism and family entertainment and inspires home gardeners to use lavender in their landscape and for personal needs.

As part of the display showing the historical partnerships the SLGA has had with supporting local groups, causes and scholarships, is a quilt created by the group, American Hero Quilts. The quilt includes portions of Sequim Lavender Festival cloth shirts which are silk screened from previous festival artwork/posters. The quilt represents the versatility of the plant in various settings and its significance to the progressive growth and identification of the lavender movement in this region over the years.

American Hero Quilts is a nonprofit group founded by Washington resident Sue Nebeker. It is a group of patriotic and talented ladies that create quilts for wounded U.S. military personnel and their family members. They are made from quality fabrics purchased locally, sewn and quilted by this dedicated group. They are collected and delivered to transition centers at military bases where they are distributed both locally and overseas. Each quilt possesses a simple tag, “YOU ARE OUR HERO THANK YOU! American Hero Quilts.

Anyone interested in donating fabric, money or time to the group should contact Berta Pauly at 457-5795.
