The mud could only slow down the Pirates for so long.
Top-ranked Peninsula kept on track for finishing the regular season strong with a 3-0 win at Tacoma on Oct. 27.
Slogging through wet conditions, Peninsula got the lone first-half goal early as Omar Abrocio netted a score off an Alex Martinez feed.
It stayed 1-0 Peninsula until the 62nd minute, when Erick Urzua found Henrique Noujeimi for a goal, and five minutes later Daniel Gonzalez scored off an Aaron Jeffrey assist.
Guilherme Avelar had four saves to record his eighth shutout of the season and the Pirates’ 12th overall.
"This was a tough game for us — on a very wet, muddy field, it was hard to get any flow to the game," Peninsula coach Andrew Chapman said.
"We struggled in the first half but in the 65th minute we were able to finally break them down."
Peninsula is in Bremerton to take on Olympic on Oct. 31, before finishing the regular season at home Nov. 3 against Bellevue.
The Pirates host a second round NWAACC playoff game at 1 p.m. on Nov. 10 at Sigmar Field against the winner of the Nov. 7 game pitting the South division’s No. 2 seed (likely Chemeketa) and the East division’s No. 3 team.
