Keying Around, the hands-on piano art project, is almost ready to make a grand appearance in Sequim.
For the First Friday Art Walk on July 1, three hand-painted pianos will go in high pedestrian-traffic areas in Downtown Sequim through July 24. Organizer Natalie Andrzejeski, who has worked on similar projects for the past five years, said pianos will be available and accessible to all, with student and other scheduled performances throughout the event.
Andrzejeski recently announced that she and two other teams plan to paint the pianos starting June 15 at Rock Hollow Farm, 505 E. Silberhorn Road.
One piano will be painted by Larry White, whose paintings with wine splatters and other unexpected mediums line Barhop Brewery in Port Angeles, and Todd Fischer, who creates vibrant mountain meets ocean paintings in his studio at Rainshadow Coffee.

The other piano will be painted by the Art Jam collective of painters, jewelers and woodworkers. It includes Barb Boerigter, Brian Buntain, Ed Crumley, Karin Anderson, Lynne Armstrong, Mary Franchini, Steve Portner, Susan Gansert Shaw, Tammy Hull and Terry Grasteit.
Their Art Jam runs at Rock Hollow Farm during Sequim Lavender Weekend from July 15-17. The pianos arrive at the farm on June 15 through a donation by Langlois Pianos.
A timeline is coming soon of the artists’ schedules for the public to view progress. Updates are made at facebook.com/keyingaround.
Andrzejeski said the pianos will auctioned off after July 24 with those funds and sponsorships by local businesses on the pianos supporting the City of Sequim Arts Commission and the Sequim School District’s art and music programs. Sponsors and contributors of the pianos receive name/logo placement on signage accompanying the pianos.
Andrzejeski also started a GoFundMe page to support the project at www.gofundme.com/keyingaroundsequim.
