Spring opener set at SkyRidge Golf Course

SkyRidge Golf Course’s Two-Person Scramble Spring Opener is set for a 9:30 a.m. shotgun start on Saturday, April 14, at 7015 Old Olympic Highway.

The tourney features two divisions, with gross and net winners.

Cost is $80 per team, with a $10 optional honey pot per player.

Fee includes range balls, KPs and lunch. Cart seats are $!2 each.

PA’s Anstett wins Rogers Invitational

Jake Anstett of Port Angeles won the checkered flag and a $1,500 crash prize at the Rogers Invitational Motorcross races at the Deer Park Motorcross track on April 1.

Anstett is sponsored by 6-D Helmets, Devol Engineering, Canvas MC and Pro Wheel.

Second place was Chance Blackrun of Chehalis, who won $1,000 and third was Zach Redding of Puyallup with a $500 purse and fourth was Bryan O’Neil of Port Angeles, who won $250.

In the Women’s Pro class, first place was taken by Kerstin Orkney, who was awarded $750; second was Ashley Freeman who won $500 and Lacie Murray, who won $250.

The race was sponsored by the Olympic Peninsula Motorcycle Club and Avery Roger’s Promotions.

Crosscutters to hold tryouts on April 21

The Olympic Crosscutters American Legion Single A Division baseball team will hold tryouts to expand its team for the upcoming 2018 season.

Seventh- through 10th-graders from anywhere on the Olympic Peninsula are encouraged to try out. Current players reside in Forks, Port Angeles, Sequim and the East Jefferson County area.

Tryouts will be held at 3 p.m. April 21 at the Sequim High School baseball fields. The game schedule starts on May 19 and includes about 35 games, concluding with district and state tournaments if the team qualifies.

Player fees are $400. Athletes will be responsible for transportation, lodging and food when traveling. Games will take place in Anacortes, Blaine and the northern Interstate 5 corridor.

Paek gets fourth ace

A.C. Paek of Port Angeles sank an ace at The Cedars at Dungeness on March 30, the golfer’s fourth hole-in-one. Paek used a 6-iron to drive the 141-yard fourth hole at The Cedars.

Seamanship, boating skills class on tap

The Port Angeles Coast Guard Auxiliary will host a Boating Skills and Seamanship class, an advanced course compared to the one-day Boating Safety class, and will allow participants to earn a Washington state boating card.

The class will be held from 6-8 p.m., April 23-27, and from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday, April 28, at Rainbows End RV Park, 261831 US Highway 101, Sequim.

Fly Fishers set next meeting in Sequim

The next meeting of the Sequim Greywolf Fly Fishers runs 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, ​April 17 at the Sequim Masonic Lodge, 700 S. Fifth Ave. There will be a brief business meeting followed by fishing reports on local lakes and favorite flies that successfully catch fish.

The remainder of the meeting is reserved for individual fly tying. You may tie a fly of your choice (bring your fly tying equipment and materials) or observe this month’s tying event. There will also be a fly raffle and discussion about recent adventures. This year’s annual dues are due at $20 for single fishers or $30 for family fishers.

Summer soccer camps set at college

Port Angeles Youth Soccer Club is accepting registrations for its summer camps held at Peninsula College. Camps will run from Monday through Friday, June 25-29 and July 23-27.

Sessions for U8 and U9 players with birth years of 2009 and 2010 will run from 9-11 a.m. Cost for these sessions is $35. Those in the U10-U16 age range with birth years of 2002-2008 will run from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Cost for the older players is $100.

Storm King soccer hosting tryouts

Registration is open now for Storm King soccer tryouts.

All players must be registered to take part in tryouts, which will be held May 19 and 20. There is no fee to register.

Tryouts for the U10-U13 teams will be held from 8:30 to noon while U14-U19 tryouts will be held from 1:30 to 5 p.m.

May 19 will focus on skills and technical ability, while scrimmages will be held on May 20.

Storm King will register players from Boys U10-BU19 (boys born in 2010-2000) and girls U10-GU15 (girls born in 2010-2004).

Fall registration fees are increasing to $285 per player. The increase helps pay for two summer tournaments, as well as assisting with coaching certifications that are a key part in the development of players, teams and Storm King FC.
