Build a puppet at your local library

Join family performer and teaching artist Andy Furgeson of Red Yarn for a special puppet-building workshop at North Olympic Libraries this month.
Build a puppet at 1 p.m. Thursday, July 19, at the Sequim Library, 630 N. Sequim Avenue.
Other workshop times/dates are 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 17, at the Forks Library, and 4 p.m. Wednesday, July 18,at the Port Angeles Library.
Participants get a chance to build elaborate animal puppets from paper, foam, fabric and yarn and will learn puppetry techniques to put their new puppets to use.
All workshops are free, but class size is limited, so pre-registration is required. To register, visit the NOLS location events calendar at www.nols.org or email to youth@nols.org.
All materials will be provided. The workshop is recommended for ages 8 and older.
In addition to his successful career performing under the name Red Yarn, Furgeson has been teaching music, puppetry and art in elementary and pre-schools for over a decade. He was Young Audiences of Oregon & SW Washington’s Teaching Artist of the Year in 2015.
The workshops are part of the library system’s 2018 Summer Reading Program, which encourages children to keep reading during the summer break from school, features a reading challenge and a boasts a multitude of events for all ages. The program runs through Aug. 18.
