Black Diamond Junction free concert
Popular peninsula band Black Diamond Junction presents a free outdoor concert starting at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 1, in the field at John Wayne’s Rustic Waterfront Resort, 2634 W Sequim Bay Road.
The concert is open to the public and family-friendly, and features classic hits from the 1960s-2000.
Black Diamond Junction has been voted “Best Live Performance Group” in Clallam County 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019 by Peninsula Daily News readers.
The free Labor Day weekend concert has become a tradition, as the band partners with the resort each year to celebrate the end of the summer season and say thank you to locals and visitors alike.
There will be some refreshments available for sale at the event. Attendees are encouraged to bring a lawn chair or blanket, as seating is limited.
OMF sets classical concerts
Set in Port Townsend’s Fort Worden State Park, the Olympic Music Festival sets a pair of performances for this weekend.
At 2 and 4 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 31, “Russian Tributes” pays homage to Medtner (Sonata-Reminiscenza in A minor, Op. 38 No. 1), Prokofiev (Violin Sonata No. 1 in F minor, Op. 80) and Tchaikovsky (Piano Trio in A minor, Op. 50). Performers include Yura Lee and Andrew Wan (violin), Julio Elizalde and Robert McDonald (piano) and Matthew Zalkind (cello).
At 2 and 4 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 1, the park hosts “Secret Love” with music from Brahms (Clarinet (Viola) Trio in A minor, Op. 114; and Piano Quartet No. 3 in C minor, Op. 60), Clara Schumann (Mazurka in G major, Op. 6 No. 5) and Robert Schumann (Davidsbündlertänze, Op. 6).

Beginning square dancing starts Sept. 9
The Strait Wheelers Square Dance Club host beginning square dance lessons beginning Monday, Sept. 9, and set for each Monday evening, 6-8 p.m., at the Shipley Center, 921 E. Hammond St.

Mix’s work to feature at Pacific Pantry
Pacific Pantry Restaurant, 229 S. Sequim Ave., host a show of original artworks by Sequim artist Catherine Mix during the months of September and October.
In September, Pacific Pantry is open 11 a.m.-7 p.m., Monday through Saturday. In October, it’s open 11 a.m.-7 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday.
Mix will be on-hand to talk about her art from 5-8 p.m. during the Sept. 6 and Oct. 4 First Friday Art Walk events.

Square dance for beginners
The Rhody O’s Square Dance Club is offering beginning square dance lessons starting Thursday, Sept. 12, at 7:30 p.m. at the Gardiner Community Center, 980 Old Gardiner Road. All are invited to a free ice cream social and introductory dance lesson.
Lessons are held each Thursday evening through the autumn and winter, with graduation in late spring. There is no experience necessary; the program is designed for those who have never square danced in their lives (or maybe years ago) but wished they had.
Attire is informal: The Rhody O’s is an informal group whose members dance in shorts and jeans and sometimes their gardening clothes.

Accordion social slated for Sept. 8
The next Sequim Accordion Social is scheduled for 1-4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 8, at the Sequim Shipley Center, 921 E. Hammond St.
The featured musicians for September are Elsy and Company, a collection of Sequim accordionists. The group includes Elsa Laresser, Ken Lillagore, Ilse Osier and Joe Schipani.
All players should bring their accordion and a song or two to play for the crowd. Accordion lovers and dancers are invited.
A $3-$4 admission donation is requested at the door to pay for the rental of the room.
Blaze a trail to fundraiser ball
The Trail Blaze Ball for the Olympic Discovery Trail brings the FreddyPink band and more to Finnriver Farm & Cidery, 124 Center Road, Chimacum, on Saturday, Sept. 14.
The event, set for 2-10 p.m., is the biggest fundraiser for the trail that spans from Port Townsend to La Push.
Admission is a $25 donation.
Other event features include a live and silent auction, food trucks, vendor booths and more.

Arts, draughts fest set
The Port Angeles Arts and Draughts Festival is set for Friday, Sept. 20, and Saturday, Sept. 21, in downtown Port Angeles along Laurel Street between First Street and Railroad Avenue.
A celebration of local culture, the event will feature 20 regional breweries, wineries and cideries, a street fair that showcases hand-crafted merchandise and local food vendors, live music with headlining concerts each night, ongoing artist exhibits and more.
Cost is $10 for Sept. 20, $30 for Sept. 21 and $35 for both days.
