Pirates go 1-2 at Raider tourney

The Pirates are in the win column.
Peninsula won its opening game at the Pierce Tournament on Dec. 11, slipping past Grays Harbor before falling to eventual tourney champion Lane on Saturday and host Pierce on Sunday.
The Pirates (1-4 overall) saw Emily Garner go for 14 points, seven rebounds and four steals in their 45-39 win against Grays Harbor.
Peninsula led 28-13 after one half, holding the Chokers to 10-percent shooting from the field.
Dena Houser added 11 points and eight rebounds while teammate Blair Musgrove had 13 boards.
In game two, powerhouse Lane showed why it’s a perennial favorite for the NWAACC tourney Final Four as the Titans clobbered Peninsula 105-39. Eight Lane players scored at least nine points and they out-rebounded Peninsula 71-45, collecting 41 offensive boards.
Houser led the Pirates with 13 points and three steals while Garner garnered 10 rebounds.
In the tourney’s third game, Peninsula gave up 19 second-chance points in a 68-53 loss to Pierce’s Raiders.
Peninsula, that fell behind by 19 points by halftime, got 14 points each from Houser and Jimesha Collins. Garner had another strong game on the boards, gathering 13 rebounds.
Peninsula was scheduled to play at Highline on Dec. 15 – results were unavailable at press time.
The Pirates are back in action Dec. 18 at the Umpqua Tournament in Oregon. They open against Walla Walla.
Peninsula’s men are also in action on Dec. 18 as they open the Linn-Benton Tournament against the tourney hosts.
