An old-fashioned barn quilt raising

The Sequim Prairie Grange No. 1108 at 290 Macleay Road is going on tour.

Members and friends of the grange placed a 6-foot by 6-foot Barn Quilt on Aug. 12 on the side of Macleay Hall as part of the Washington State Heritage Quilt Trail. The grange joins a roster where people can travel from grange to grange to see their barn quilts, said grange member Keith Koehler.

Loretta Bilow, a grange member, designed the quilt while Jaydee Price, a friend of the grange, painted the center block of Washington’s state bird — the goldfinch, flower — Pacific rhododendron, and tree — western hemlock.

Nancy Hutt and Bilow painted the four corner blocks that represent Washington’s pattern and Koehler made the cedar frame.
