Second Saturday Science spotlight falls on bats

Speakers at the next Second Saturday Science event are going to wing it with a presentation about bats.

Representatives from the Port Townsend-based Western Wildlife Outreach will offer “Bats of the Pacific Northwest” at 10:30 a.m. on Jan. 11 at the Sequim Library, 630 N. Sequim Ave.

Second Saturday Science offer fun, hands-on opportunities for children ages 7-12 to explore concepts related to science, technology, engineering and math (STEM).

On Jan. 11, children will have the opportunity to see real bat specimens, learn about echolocation and other unique bat adaptations, compare anatomy to understand the similarities between bats and other flying animals and investigate 3-D printed skulls to gain insights into ongoing scientific research.
