Sunland couples take titles

Cyndi Carpine and Mike Mullikin took the overall 2020 Couples Championship at Sunland Golf & Country Club, shooting a two-day gross score of 146 on Oct. 6 and Oct. 9.

Dan and Geri O’Claray were overall net champions with a combined score of 137.

Capouch sinks ace

Gary Capouch of Sequim sank his first hole-in-one on Oct. 7 at The Cedars at Dungeness. He used a 7-iron to drive the 127-yard hole No. 11 at The Cedars.

Warren Cortez and Herman Sakimoto, both of Sequim, witnessed the feat.

Sunland sees trio of aces

Sunland Golf & Country Club saw three hole-in-one shots last week.

Scott Ferguson scored the first ace — his first at Sunland and third overall — after driving the 160-yard hole No. 5 with a 5-iron.

Jay Tomlin sank a hole-in-one two days later, using an 8-iron to ace hole No. 17 from 125 yards out on Oct. 7. For Tomlin it was his third ace at Sunland and sixth overall.

Rick Edel made a hole-in-one on Oct. 9 during the Couples Golf Championship, using a 6-hybrid to drive 120 yards at hole No. 17 — his first ever hole-in-one.

It’s the second time in 2020 that Sunland has seen three aces in one week and makes nine overall for the year, said head pro Frederick Green.
