PC soccer women win openers
Playing in their first match in roughly 18 months, the Peninsula women’s soccer team started off their long-delayed season with a 3-0 shutout over Skagit Valley on April 10.
Alysia Alvarado scored a goal with an assist from Makenna Wilson. Wilson also scored a goal with an assist from Alvarado.
Also scoring was former Port Angeles Roughrider Krysten McGuffey. Her goal was assisted by Cecilia Jenkins.
Anderson said goalkeeper Musuai Isaia also made a great save on a penalty kick to preserve the shutout.
PC added a 3-0 win at home over Everett on April 12. McGuffey, Wilson and Miya Clark had scores, and the Pirate defense held Edmonds to a single shot attempt.
PC men’s soccer squad routs Trojans on pitch
Peninsula College’s men’s soccer squad won its opener, a 5-1 home win over Everett on April 12.
Kai Biegler, Jonathan De Motta, Edgar Guzman, Dylan Pauw and Keigo Takai each had scores in the win.
Ian Dalton picked up the win in goal for PC, recording two saves.
PC men’s hoops fall in heartbreaker
The Peninsula College men nearly completed a wild comeback in the final minute and had a golden opportunity to tie the game with 11 seconds left, but the ball wouldn’t drop on a contested shot and the host Pirates ended up falling to Bellevue 75-67 on April 10.
Bellevue made six free throws in the final 10 seconds to put the game away.
Keith Seldon led the Pirates (1-3) with 15 points, including five clutch points in the final minute, on 3-of-7 shooting from 3-point range. Vince McFarland had 13 points and seven rebounds, while Jaylin Reed had 10 points and seven rebounds, and Ty Artis had 10 points, five rebounds and five assists. Isaiah Sampson led the Pirates with eight rebounds to go with his eight points.
The game was played without fans in the PC gym because of COVID-19 protocols in the women’s program last week. The women’s team had three games canceled.
Peninsula (1-3) goes on the road to play Whatcom (0-3) on April 14.
Frosty Moss Relay set
Registrations are still being taken for the Frosty Moss Relay scheduled for May 15.
The Frosty Moss Relay is an 80-mile,15-leg team relay that goes on paved and unpaved trails from the Sol Duc Valley to Blyn. There is also a “Mini Moss” that is 30 miles long and begins at Ediz Hook.
The race is normally held in February, but had to be postponed to May. A team can have two to five runners (two to four for the Mini Moss).
Cost is $95 per person for the full Frosty Moss and $75 per person for the Mini Moss.
There will be wave starts because of COVID-19 precautions.

Peninsula Adventure Sports also has two other events coming up — The Olympic Adventure Trail 12K and half-marathon runs on April 17 and the first of three Gravel Unravel gravel bike races on May 1. The Olympic Adventure Trail Run is fully booked up with a waiting list.
